CDA Anticipates Completion of Blue Area Parking Plaza by April-2024

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is looking forward to the completion of the parking plaza located in Blue Area, Islamabad, aimed for April 2024. Despite beginning the project in March 2022 with an original deadline of March 2023, delays have necessitated an extension, with expectations of finalizing work by April 2024.

Rapid progress is reportedly underway by the National Logistics Cell (NLC), a construction firm responsible for the large-scale parking infrastructure with an investment of Rs1.3 billion. Upon completion, the plaza will boast seven levels, including a basement and ground floor, offering ample space for 900 cars and 150 motorcycle parking.

CDA officials have expressed optimism for the timely release of funds to meet the April deadline, emphasizing the crucial need for enhanced parking facilities in the capital. The demand for parking has surged, with Blue Area and other major centers facing severe space constraints for motorists.

Past efforts by the CDA include the creation of two underground parking lots at Jinnah Super Market. However, these have not been fully utilized, despite the significant costs incurred. The officials cite increased vehicle numbers, bylaw enforcement issues, and poor planning as key challenges. They also pointed out shop owners’ expansions beyond original layouts, further exacerbating the parking space crisis.

The shelving of other parking plaza projects in I-8 Markaz and F-8 earlier this year due to a fund shortage highlights the pressing issue of accommodating the city’s growing number of vehicles. The new parking plaza in Blue Area is thus a critical step forward in addressing Islamabad’s parking woes.
