CDA Unveils Green Initiatives to Transform Islamabad into a Sustainable City.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is gearing up to implement several ambitious projects aimed at making Islamabad a more sustainable and environment-friendly city. Spokesperson Nauman Khalid recently announced these initiatives, emphasizing their potential to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

One of the key projects is introducing a network of over 200 electric buses. These buses will not only provide a cleaner and quieter mode of transportation but also contribute to reducing traffic congestion in the city. Additionally, CDA is developing a citywide bicycle route network to promote safe and accessible cycling as an equitable commute option for Islamabad residents.

To address the longstanding issue of car parking in Islamabad, CDA is collaborating with banks to implement an automated car parking system. This system will optimize parking space utilization and help alleviate traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking.

Recognizing the importance of green spaces, CDA has launched a massive tree-plantation drive in collaboration with universities. This initiative aims to increase the city’s green cover and contribute to cleaner air and a more pleasant environment. CDA is also actively engaging citizens, educational institutions, and other stakeholders in maintaining the natural beauty of Islamabad, which was originally envisioned as a green city.

CDA understands that simply planting new trees is not enough. To ensure a thriving urban forest, the organization is also focusing on proper maintenance of existing trees and preventing encroachment on retrieved land. A comprehensive strategy is being developed to safeguard old trees and create sustainable green spaces throughout the city.

For the first time, CDA has launched a tree plantation campaign through its website, inviting schools, religious seminaries, traders, and housing societies to participate. This inclusive approach aims to foster a sense of community ownership and responsibility towards environmental protection in Islamabad.

These ambitious projects represent a significant step forward in CDA’s commitment to creating a sustainable and livable future for Islamabad. By prioritizing greener transportation, expanding green spaces, and engaging the community, CDA is taking concrete steps to make Islamabad a model city for environmental responsibility in Pakistan.

Rawalpindi Ring Road Project set to be inaugurated on August 14 this year.
