CM Naqvi announced signal-free corridor for Rawalpindi from Pirwadhai Morr to Kutchery Chowk

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced a significant development for the residents of Rawalpindi. This development involves the construction of a signal-free corridor stretching from Pirwadhai Morr to Kutchery Chowk. This corridor, spanning 7.6 kilometers, aims to reduce traffic congestion at some of the busiest intersections in Rawalpindi. Under this project, three underpasses and two protected U-turns will also be built. Following the CM’s direction, there will be construction and extension work on Asghar Mall Road. Mohsin Naqvi laid the foundation stone for the signal-free corridor project, signaling the commencement of this ambitious endeavor.

The mega project for the signal-free corridor is estimated to cost around 8.2 billion rupees. Its completion is expected to bring about a permanent solution to the long-standing traffic problems in Rawalpindi. Additionally, specific infrastructural features include a single barrel underpass at Qasim Market, along with double barrel underpasses at GPO Chowk and PC Chowk. Launching the construction work at Asghar Mall Road, Naqvi reiterated the commitment to complete this road from Murree Road to Chungi Number 04 within the stipulated timeline.

As part of the project, attention will also be given to cleaning the local sewerage lines surrounding the road to prevent water accumulation, particularly in densely populated areas. The citizens have faced numerous inconveniences due to the location of Asghar Mall Road, and it is hoped that these efforts will alleviate their concerns. Naqvi emphasized that traffic problems in the city will be addressed comprehensively through the repair and rehabilitation of link roads.

During the announcement and foundation laying ceremony, Naqvi received detailed briefings about both projects. The event was attended by various provincial ministers including SM Tanveer, Doctor Javed Akram, Amir Mir, and Doctor Jamal Nasir, along with officials such as the Chief Secretary, Chairman P&D Board, Secretaries of C&W, Health, Local Government, Industries, Commissioner Rawalpindi, RPO, Deputy Commissioner, and other concerned authorities.
