The Rawalpindi administration is set to establish a sprawling economic zone spanning over 5,000 acres to bolster the local business sector, as disclosed by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Liaquat Ali Chatta. This initiative aims to provide a dedicated space for trade and manufacturing, thereby generating economic growth and job opportunities within the region.
Commissioner Chatta highlighted the strategic master planning underway for Rawalpindi, which encompasses this vast economic territory designed for the city’s trade community. The plan contributes to the economic vigor of the Rawalpindi division, which incorporates six districts across an area of 22,993 square kilometers and supports a population of over 11 million.
Boasting a commendable literacy rate of 72.25%, the division is home to 12 universities and 5 specialized institutions. In terms of development, Rawalpindi has initiated 544 schemes under its Annual Development Program for 2023-24, amounting to Rs179,576 million, with 33% of the funds already allocated to these projects.
Progressive endeavors such as Phase-I of the Rawalpindi Ring Road are underway, which is set to revitalize the city’s landscape. This infrastructure project is closely tied with plans for Economic Corridors along the Ring Road aimed at stimulating the local economy.
Additional key projects are rapidly advancing, including the construction of Dadocha Dam, which promises a substantial supply of clean drinking water, and various urban development initiatives like the Leh Expressway, Kutcherry Chowk, Safe City Project, and the modernization of Holy Family Hospital.
