Residents of Islamabad are calling for the speedy completion of the ongoing construction on Park Road as the work continues at a slow pace, causing daily traffic congestion. The project, which was supposed to be completed within six months, has been ongoing for several months, raising concerns among citizens.
Park Road is a busy route that provides access to various residential areas, educational institutions, and housing societies. During rush hours, the road faces massive traffic jams due to the ongoing construction work. The congestion has also affected businesses, including marriage halls and marquees located along the road.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) awarded a Rs. 1.9 billion contract to the National Logistics Cell under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules. The project, which involves the rehabilitation and widening of Park Road from Rawal Chowk to Tramari Chowk, aims to address the long-standing traffic congestion issue caused by the rapid growth of residential areas and institutions along the road.
Currently, the road has two lanes in a dilapidated condition. The CDA plans to add an extra lane on each side, making it a three-lane artery and repairing the existing lanes for better traffic flow. However, the progress on the project is far behind the deadline, with conflicting opinions on when it can be completed.
One official expressed hope that the project would be wrapped up in a few months as the work has picked up pace. However, another official disagrees, citing the slow progress in shifting utility lines as a major reason for the delay. A CDA representative has promised to investigate the reasons behind the delay and ensure the timely completion of the Park Road project.
