Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has recently announced a bold new project named the New Murabba project. The project aims to revamp a 19-square-kilometer area to the northwest of Riyadh into a bustling mixed-use district. The highlight of this project is the Mukaab. Mukaab will become the world’s largest modern downtown, towering at 400 meters tall and 400 meters wide, and would be large enough to accommodate 20 Empire Estate buildings.
According to the developers, the Mukaab will use digital and virtual technology. Through which it will create interactive holographic displays that change with the surrounding urban landscape. The cube structure will enclose a tower on top of a spiral base, with a hospitality destination that spans 2 million square meters of floor space. The project will feature residential and hotel units, commercial spaces, recreational facilities, and cultural and tourist attractions. Overall, the New Murabba project will include ;
- 104,000 residential units
- 9,000 hotel rooms
- 980,000 square meters of retail space
- 1.4 million square meters of office space,
- as well as 1.8 million square meters of community facilities.
The developers have designed the New Murabba project to be a model for sustainable urban development, incorporating green areas, walking and cycling paths, and a range of entertainment and cultural venues, including a technology and design museum and a theater. The project aims to promote healthy lifestyles and will provide residents with living, working, and entertainment spaces within a 15-minute walking radius. Additionally, the project will generate over 350,000 jobs and contribute significantly to the economic growth of the region.
Mukaab will diversify saudi economy:
New Murabba project will be completed by 2030. While the Mukaab will complete several years earlier than the entire project. The completion of the project will be a significant milestone in the transformation of Saudi Arabia’s economy as it diversifies away from its dependence on oil and gas exports. The Saudi Arabian government’s ambition to position the country as a leader in sustainable development, technology, and innovation is evident in the Mukaab and the wider New Murabba project. If successful, the project could set a new standard for large-scale urban development initiatives globally.
