The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in Rawalpindi has commenced a beautification drive to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city. As part of this initiative, the main squares along important roads are being transformed to give them a fresh and vibrant look.
In the first phase of the project, a steel sculpture named Shaar has been installed at Marrir Chowk with the sponsorship of local traders. The sculpture will be adorned with flowers and illuminated, adding to the charm of the area.
Under the beautification drive, sculptures, flowers, and plants will be placed at city entrances and main squares, with special lighting arrangements in the evenings. Additionally, lights will be installed in underpasses and open spaces along the Metro Bus track.
The second phase of the project will focus on enhancing Double Road and improving the greenbelts along the city’s main roads. A survey of downtown areas is also underway to introduce green elements like flower pots and trees.
The PHA aims to make Rawalpindi a greener city through a tree plantation drive, with plans to beautify the Mall, Murree Road, and Rashid Minhas Road. A vast nursery in Gorakhpur has been developed to cultivate a variety of plants for citywide planting.
Future plans include whitewashing Metro Bus track pillars, installing LCD and fancy lights, and revamping metro stations’ surrounding areas. Efforts are being made to expedite the renovation of parks, repair faulty amenities, and enhance security measures.
With these ongoing efforts, Rawalpindi is set to undergo a significant transformation, promising residents and visitors a rejuvenated and attractive cityscape.
