Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled an ambitious plan to provide 1kV solar systems to 50,000 households across the province, offering an alternative to costly electricity. Chairing a special meeting focused on the “Light without Electricity Bill: Chief Minister’s Roshan Punjab Program,” she emphasized the program’s aim to alleviate the burden of expensive electricity for low-income households.
Under the program, eligible consumers using up to 100 units of electricity will receive 1kV solar systems comprising two solar panels, a battery, inverter, and wiring. The initiative is designed to empower households by providing up to 16 hours of charging backup through lithium iron batteries, enabling the operation of fans, lights, and small motors.
Emphasizing the importance of using the latest technology and high-quality components, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to ensure the installation of top-notch solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other accessories. She also announced plans to gradually expand the scope of solar systems for domestic consumers.
In a separate announcement, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the Punjab government’s proactive approach to environmental sustainability ahead of Earth Day. Initiatives include launching the “No to Plastic” campaign, with plans to ban plastic bags across Punjab from June 5. The campaign aims to mitigate the adverse health effects of plastic pollution and contribute to smog reduction efforts.
Special events and campaigns at divisional and district levels, along with educational workshops and curriculum integration, underscore Punjab’s commitment to environmental protection and public health improvement. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts by planting trees and reducing plastic usage.
Furthermore, the Punjab government’s initiatives, such as using electric buses and eco-friendly fuels, reflect a holistic approach to addressing environmental challenges. By leveraging modern technology and sustainable practices, the government aims to enhance the quality of life for Punjab’s residents while safeguarding the planet for future generations.
